Midland Lutheran Girls Basketball Camps
Head Coach Joanne Bracker

Entering her 40th year as head coach of the women’s basketball program, Bracker is one of Midland Lutheran College’s most successful coaches, owning a 715-363 career record at MLC.

On the court, she has guided the Warriors to a season-end national ranking on 13 different occasions, while the Warriors have earned national tournament berths eight times under Bracker, the most recent being the 1999-2000 season. Recently, Bracker reached a pivotal milestone in her coaching career. She earned her 700th career victory, a feat few coaches ever achieve during their career.

During her career, Bracker has worked closely with the USA Olympic women’s basketball team, serving as the assistant coach for the North team during the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival. In addition, she served on the selection committee for the 1992 and 1996 USA Olympic women’s basketball teams.
 
In addition to her coaching duties, she currently serves as the chairperson on the NAIA Kodak All-America selection committee. In June 1999, Bracker was an inaugural member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee. She also received recognition for her outstanding contributions to women's basketball, being inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1996. She is also a member of the Dana College Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Midland Lutheran College Athletic Hall of Fame.

An assistant professor of physical education at MLC, Bracker graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Dana College and a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.


Leon Bracker
Assistant Coach

Leon Bracker has been assisting on the Warrior Basketball team for 36 years.  Leon is highly involved in the Warriors recruiting process, and is a multidimensional coach with a substantial teaching background after recently retiring from elementary education with the Fremont Public Schools system.  Leon’s hobbies include substitute teaching, ranching, soil conservation, hunting, gardening and fishing.

 


Jerry Bloom
Assistant Coach

Jerry Bloom begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Warriors. Bloom brings a wealth of coaching experience with him to the Warrior bench. A former player at Glendale Community College, in Glendale, Ariz., Bloom has been a high school and elementary teacher for 30 years. Bloom coached high school basketball for 16 years in Phoenix, Ariz. In addition, Bloom coached a select basketball team for high school players in the Phoenix area for two seasons.

Bloom will assist the varsity program and coach the junior varsity team. Bloom received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Northern Arizona University in 1976.


Kendra Voss
Assistant Coach

Kendra Voss begins her thirteenth season as an assistant for the Warriors. A former player for coach Bracker from ’94-’97, Voss handles the strength training program for the team and also helps coordinate the tape exchanges between opponents. A native of North Bend, Voss is currently employed with Platte Valley Bank in North Bend.
 
 
 
 

Randy Sanders
Assistant Coach

Randy enters his sixth year with the Warrior program.  Sanders brings 30 years of coaching girls and boys basketball experience with him from various levels.  Sanders is responsible for scouting opponents on tape plus helping implement each game plan.  Sanders is married to his wife Ramona of 35 years, and has taught at Fremont High School for a total of 34 years.  

In addition to his Warrior basketball duties, Sanders is an assistant coach for the Fremont High freshman football team. 

He enjoys golfing during the summer, traveling when possible and collects antiques.

Riikka Lehtonen
Assistant Coach

Riikka Lehtonen begins her first season as an assistant coach for the Warriors. Lehtonen is a native of Finland and has played basketball all over the world. Lehtonen played professionally for Turun Riento in Turku, Finland, and was a member of the Finnish Women’s National Team. She also played professionally for BG 74 Gottingen in Gottingen, Germany, in the 2007-08 season.

Lehtonen played collegiately at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M. Prior to that, she played in junior college at Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. She played high school basketball for Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio.

In addition to her professional playing experience, Lehtonen has coached on the same levels, bringing a well-rounded knowledge of the game to Midland Lutheran.


Camp staff also includes successful area high school coaches and members of the Lady Warrior Basketball Team. These coaches bring a depth of experience from successful college careers and/or additional experience teaching/ coaching at the elementary, secondary or college levels. The coaching staff is committed to provide each camper personal attention and instruction.
